Commercial IRC vs industrial IRC

PurposeCommercial IRC: importing for sale. Industrial IRC: raw materials and machinery for production
ApplicantCommercial: trading businesses. Industrial: manufacturers
AuthorityBoth CCI&E; industrial may need a recommendation from BIDA or the relevant body

This list is general guidance; depending on the work and government requirements, fewer, more or additional documents may be needed.

Good to know

IRC and ERC are issued by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCI&E) under the applicable registration order and import-export policy. Applications are made in CCI&E's Online Licensing Module (OLM). Import policy is reissued and amended periodically, so work is done against the latest policy.

  • Companies need the incorporation certificate and MoA/AoA, partnerships need the partnership deed; sole proprietorships do not.
  • Government fees depend on the import limit and type of registration and change over time. We tell you the current CCI&E rate when you apply.

What you receive: IRC or ERC certificate, copy of the filed application and renewal schedule.
